Radio / Radio Kits

Whether you’re looking for a two-way VHF radio for your Can-Am Maverick X3 or a CB radio for your Maverick Trail, here at Everything Can-Am Offroad, we’ve got every type of UTV radio and radio kit imaginable. Some riders think using a boat radio in their UTV is a good idea because they hold up well under wet conditions. But be careful if you do this, as using the marine band on land could get you in trouble with the FCC. Some radios come pre-programmed, but even those that don’t aren’t hard to program. Baofeng’s UV5R radio, for instance, can be programed using CHIRP. You can also program GMRS frequencies into them and many others just to monitor the national park service, local LE, fire dept. etc. Rugged Radios makes good radio kits for the Can-Am Maverick. Add the waterproof kit as well as a baja boot and you’re ready to rock. You can use them with a mic/speaker or run them through intercoms and transmit the audio to headsets or helmet speakers. Old fashion CB radios have also been making a comeback. Although not as powerful as other UTV radios, they do the trick and at a fraction of the cost of other longer-distances communication radios.

Headsets, an intercom and of course two-way radios systems are absolute game changers to ride with. Especially if you ride with large groups using several machines, the ability to communicate via radio will improve the safety of your rides and make managing the group among those who are leading the ride way easier. Many Maverick owners find that VHF frequencies work best for the terrain where they ride. These “very high frequencies” can penetrate dense foliage and even rocky hills. So even if you’re at the bottom of a gully or in thick woods, you can still be in contact with your crew. The down side to these types of side-by-side radios is that licensing is required (a technician level license at minimum). If you don’t use repeaters, you may only get around 5 miles of range depending on the terrain. But for most riders that is more than enough. And in addition to having a radio in your Maverick when you ride, it’s also a good idea to keep a handheld around when you’re not in it — in case someone is trying to find you at the camp site or somewhere. Either way, you’re sure to find a radio that meets your needs here at Everything Can-Am Offroad!
