In some cases, it’s not the Can-am Maverick rack, tie rod, or pinion that gets busted, but rather, the piece between the rack and tie rod. You can get just the ends, and if you’re pinion seal is leaking, you don’t necessarily need a pinion puller — just take the differential out and replace seal, and also replace the wear ring on the prop shaft while you’re at it. You only need a flat head screwdriver to pull the seal out, and don’t even have to take the differential out if you don’t want to. It’s possible to take the u-joint out and slide the drive shaft over. Then take the yoke bolt out and slide the yoke off of the pinion shaft. Drive a flat screw driver into the side of the seal and pop it out. Replace the wire ring on yoke and you’re good to go! If it’s not the pinion seal, you might find that your rack has more play in it than you’d like to see. There are many companies where you can send your UTV’s steering rack to have it rebuilt. They can replace the ends, phase everything, and make sure it’s all balanced and ready to rock for your next adventure.
